Living and working in Romania - A new chapter begins!

This will come as a surprise to many people! I am now living close to Bucharest in Romania, and working at the shelter with my dear friend Ioana on her farmyard with all her wonderful animals. I have quite literally 'sold up', given up my UK home, my possessions, and my life in England, to begin a new chapter in my desire to help the Romanian rescuers and the animals in their care...
I suspect that quite a few people will have known where my heart lies..With the Romanian dogs, and those angels striving to save them...and therefore, I have decided to take a massive step in my life, to embark on a new chapter, living and working in Romania to assist various shelters and the animals in their care...

Those who know of my previous work in Romania, with my dearest friends at Wetnose Animal Aid and the lovely K-9 Angels, will know that my heart and soul burns with a passion for those Romanian dogs who are in need of help. The previous campaigns with our lovely celebrity supporters Saffron Republica, Lorraine Chase, Peter Egan, and Samantha Fox, have raised the status and profile for those people and shelters that we visited, and although it's wonderful to work with such lovely people during these campaigns, my heart was broken everytime we returned to the UK, having to leave the animals behind, and the people who we met, such as Marinela at Maoland Shelter, and the others...Seeing the desperation on their faces, as we visited them, and their hopes that they placed in us to publicise their work, made me realise that I just had to do more...much more...

And so, as I now write this, I am preparing for a new life, getting ready to set up all the logistical aspects, in order to be of assistance to Ioana, so that she can concentrate on what she does best...saving lives...Ioana is the lady that we met during the 'Wetnose Celebrity Campaign' in early 2014, and she chaperoned us, and took us to various shelters such as Red Panda, Maoland, Footprints of Joy, and others. We also visited her own shelter, to meet her lovely animals, many who had been tortured and abused, neglected, or had lived sad lonely lives, living on rubbish dumps or in the woods. Ioana has saved many animals in very distressing situations, and she barely sleeps..feeding stray animals, vet visits, managing her farm shelter, and all the other things associated with rescue work..She truly is an angel for the Romanian strays...watch the Film VT below, to see some of her dogs and their heartbreaking stories...
My role will also involve assisting with transport runs between the farm, the UK and beyond, to take the adopted dogs to their new loving homes. Working also with others in Romania and the UK, our primary aim is to set up a regular, reliable transport network with the vans, to transport dogs such as Marinela's animals at Maoland shelter, as well as other shelters and rescue workers in Romania.  Our aim will be to make sure that all paperwork, passports etc are in order, and making sure that all dogs transported are in good health, and ready for their new lives abroad.
Being there in person, I can also assist in the maintenence of the farm itself, from painting, building new kennels, and all the other physical everyday tasks neccessary, in order to support Ioana and her staff...Also, Maoland shelter is only a couple of hours drive away, and being situated close to Bucharest itself,  means that accessibility to other places is within easy reach. I have met so many wonderful people in Romania, who I now consider true friends, and I can now be instantly approached and I can do so much more to help and support them all. I shall also be in the UK on occassion, assisting in the transport runs, but if you need to contact me prior, then email me at the address below.
Many people will understand just why I had to do this...To be honest, that initial visit to Romania in early 2014 changed my perspective, and outlook on life. Since setting up my foundation in early 2010, I have been privileged to work with many wonderful people on campaigns all over the World. Although it is 'nice' sometimes to be complimented on such work, for me, I never wanted any thanks, or reward...just to be able to help animal's, and that is all that has ever mattered to me. To be able to simply be a tiny cog, in a big machine, is something that has driven me on in my work to date. I guess that same love for animals is what compels us all to do the things that we do in our lives, and even though I have taken a big step in my own private life, that step is no greater than those who share, sponsor, adopt, and help in so many ways, because we are all equally important in our collective efforts to eradicate all form of cruelty, oppression, and harm towards all our voiceless friends. For me, this is just another step up that ladder, and is something that I simply must do...
I do hope to work with others on future campaigns, but for now, my life is here..in Romania.
However, you can always come visit us at the farm, and see for yourself the work that's being done by Ioana and others!
As I have always said...
"I never wanted money..I never wanted fame..just to save the life of animals..to take away their pain..To stop their cries, to heal their hearts..To end man's cruel ways..It's all I ask, and all I dream..that dream will be today"...
Sometimes in life, you have to follow your dreams, follow your passions, and jump headfirst into unknown waters.
Giving up so much is daunting I admit, but this is where my heart belongs.  I wish to personally thank all those wonderful friends and supporters who have followed my work to date, and those who have assisted me, and always believed in me. Thank you so very much. Many people who know me will be aware that material things have never meant anything to me, and I may not be an intellectual mastermind, or master of anything infact, but all I can say is that I am passionate in my desire, to see an end to the brutality inflicted upon man's best friend, and so far, my hopes and desires have carried me through on this journey, and I just hope that I can do justice to those people and animals, who I will now be working with in Romania...All I ask of you, is your continued support, and I will keep updating both my Facebook pages and this website when time permits...
Thank you all sincerely...Gary Edwards. 2015.

                                                Saving lives in Romania

On Tuesday 21st April, myself and Ioana were driving to collect 7 dogs from Timisoara, when suddenly in the darkness, we spotted two dogs scurrying across the unlit Country road. As Ioana slammed on the brakes, the two dogs ran to safety in the nearby fields, hiding in the long grass. We approached with caution, and as our eyes accustomed to the darkness, we spotted a tiny puppy, shivering in the cold wet grass. Before this little mite had the chance to run away we grabbed him.

This poor puppy was shaking with cold and hunger..bewildered, scared, but now safe! The puppys Mother had scarpered off in the fields, and when we returned to the same spot after collecting the 7 dogs, we saw her again, but she ran off. This little puppy would never have survived for long on the streets, and although it was heartbreaking having to take the puppy away from it's Mother, his only chance of survival was with us at the safety of the farm, where he would no longer have to dice with traffic, and endure a harsh life on the streets. We took the puppy home, and he was very anaemic due to an infestation of ticks who had sucked on his blood, but after a bath, and clean, he tucked into his first meal in ages. Now he will be fed, cared for, and when ready, be available for adoption in a new loving home...

ASTRO PET TRANSPORT LAUNCHES THE FIRST UK RUN, BRINGING MANY DOGS TO THEIR NEW, LOVING HOMES.

The first trial run for the transport resulted in over 30 dogs from Romania finding loving homes in the UK. Myself, Ioana, and a wonderful driver from Bucharest, drove 1500 miles, through 5 Countries, to drop off the dogs at kennels in the UK, ready for collection by their new owners. It was a long journey by road and ferry, but the dogs behaved impeccably throughout, and we meticulously checked the animals during the trip, making sure that they were fed, watered, and safe. This first run is just the start, as the intention is to implement regular transport runs, in order to make sure that many more Romanian dogs are ready to begin new lives in the UK...

Astro Pet Transport is a NON Profit making Charity type transport, with focus on Transporting Romanian Rescues to the UK under TYPE 2 and TRACE Regulations, and what makes Astro different, is that by having a NON profit policy, this means that anything left over after expenses WILL go down to the Romanian rescues we support.

We would like to ask for your support, in promoting the transport group, so that we will be able to help the many Romanian rescuers, shelters, and those who are involved in bringing the dogs to a better life. Please share, and tell your rescue friends about Astro Pet Transport. Thank you.

Saying goodbye, and wishing her a happy life.

Faith - Cruelly abused, abandoned on the roadside with horrific injuries.

Poor 'Faith'...Abandoned on the roadside by the farm with terrible injuries..Ioana and Cristi were shocked to see her lying in the grass, unable to move due to both legs broken, and a terrible open wound to her front left paw area. Left to die all alone in agony...

As they picked up this poor dog, she licked them, so sweet is her nature, and her sheer will to survive made Ioana promise that she would do everything in her power to save her life. They rushed Faith to the vets where she received emergency treatment. Currently Faith is living at our farm, where her wounds are tended to everyday, and she is such a sweet dog, never once crying, and always cuddling and sharing her love for those who saved her life. This is why we do what we do.

Dogs such as Faith are simply left to die in agony on the streets, their little bodies left to rot, as nobody cares. Each night as Ioana dresses her with clean bandages, we pray that her open wounds will heal, and that she remains strong. She will require extensive surgery to repair her fractured bones, and although we are desperately trying to save her left front leg from infection, if it transpires that her leg cannot be saved, she will cope well on 3 legs, as many others dog have done.

Currently Faith cannot walk at all, as not only is her left front leg dislocated and broken, the rear right leg is also broken, and therefore she cannot walk. However, we will never give up on dogs like this poor mite...
